Here's Inara standing in the shell of her soon-to-be house. Around a month ago, I finally scrapped up 2 gold 50 silver and decided it was time to locate a permanent residence. Housing in Vanguard is instituted in a pretty unique fashion--the plots and homes actually live in the game world, similar to Ultima Online. They are not instanced like EQ2 or LoTRO, so anyone riding around in the world can come upon your home and see it in the landscape. This also means that there is a a limited amount of space within the world for homes, so finding a plot in the right price range is a lot like the real world, without realtor.com and an actual realtor. I spent the better part of one morning, riding around the various areas set aside for housing, looking for a cheap 2g50s plot, and eventually, after much searching came across this little spot in Hidden Cove in NE Thestra. I snapped up the plot itself, and had been paying the weekly 25 silver upkeep for the past few weeks, until yesterday I accidentally pressed the "Begin Construction" button, and up popped the frame of my house. I figured that now would be as good a time as any to get started on raising the roof.
I'm building a mid-level expsense house, a Thestran single story thatched roof house. It's the right balance for me between looks, space and cost. Most of the components that go into house construction are supplied as crafted goods from players, so I'll basically be like a real general contractor, out finding subcontractors to supply things like sandstone bricks and firegrass thatch. Fortunately, Inara is a carpenter by trade, so she can produce the 40 wood panels and 20 wood beams required for the house, and should be able to furnish it as well. I'll keep the photos coming as the bulding progresses!
